I've been really miserable this last week. I think I caught some sort of a bug on top of all my other symptoms I have to deal with daily. These are the days where you know that God knows more than you do about your strength.
I can't tell if I'm sick or if this is just a really long relapse. Since Saturday I've gone through 12 boxes of tissues! It's ridiculous!
It's been affecting my treadmill activity too, which is disappointing. I was so excited to be able to produce consistently on the treadmill and feel like I was maybe making some progress (for 3 days). My heart rate has been out of control and too high for what I've been doing. I haven't been able to go for 20 minutes every day either.
Hopefully this dark cloud will pass soon. I'm trying to stay positive. There's a free "read through the bible" website that's been very encouraging for me during the last few months. You can pick from different reading plans that suit your needs and wants. It's www.youversion.com. I'm reading the "Psalms and Proverbs" plan and it's been inspiring.
David went through extreme ups and downs. He was righteous and a sinner, and he loved God. It's great to put things in perspective by reading through his struggles and his cries to God. It helps me remember that it's ok to call out to God and not have to put on a brave face for Him. We can be real, broken, disappointed, frustrated.... and He loves us anyway. It's an amazing feeling to know that He is here and He's not leaving me.
Hi Kate, although my neuro doctor has not diagnosed me with PCS yet, after reading your blog I feel this is definitely what I have. At this point everything that I you did to help yourself is what I am already doing. Well not the exercise part becuase I really do just feel that horrible. I am amazed how little the PCS part of the concussion is discussed. Even in the sports world right now, it's all about the initial concussion. So I have to go, my eyes are starting to hurt and the migraine will soon follow. This light sensitivity stinks.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you are suffering from a concussion and possibly PCS. How long has it been since your concussion?
If you have time/patience to look through some of the recent articles I posted from the University of Buffalo Concussion Clinic, you should. Dr. Leddy has done some amazing research.
The articles describe what happens to your brain during a concussion and how to know if you have PCS. It's a very frustrating condition.
Take your time to work through any reading you have to do. It can easily frustrate you and cause you pain. I can work in small doses, and it helps to copy articles over to a word document and break it up with spacing.
It's tough to look at big chunks of text at once. The message board on the neurotalk website is a wealth of information and can link you to others in your area that can help.
This is the specific forum for PCS: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum92.html
Good luck and let me know if there is anything I can do for you or any questions I can answer. If you are anywhere near Buffalo, NY you should definitely try to see Dr. Leddy at UB. He's really the only one doing PCS research at all.
Thanks Kate. I haven't really read too much on-line. I am going to an eye specialist this week. The eye where I hit feels weird and seems to be the source of most of headaches/migraines. At this point the most I am reading is what my son brings home from school. Unfortunately I am no where near Buffalo. Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, and keep me posted on how you are doing if you don't mind. I'm here if you need anything. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks! No migraine today! My son had a 1/2 day today and thank goodness he agreed to take a nap. I'm OK if I am in the house, but when I get outside, the world seems to tilt to the right and the noises make me disoriented (not sure if that is the right word). I even made dinner today. I might pay for this tomorrow, we'll see.
ReplyDeleteHi Kate (and others),
ReplyDeleteI didn't know anything about PCS or that it existed until now after reading most of this blog, which is after my first post that only had to do with Elavil withdrawal. I apologize for being ignorant. Though the Elavil withdrawal is bad, it seems to pale in comparison to PCS. I don't have PCS, but I'll be praying for all of you in the name of our all powerful loving Lord and Savior!
God Bless,
Roger
Roger,
ReplyDeletePlease, there is no comparing anything here. It is all relative to your life. I'm happy that you were able to find comfort and support in a different place.
There is no better or worse thing that we as people have to go through here on earth.
Thank you for your prayer and please don't hesitate to continue to post about the Elavil withdrawal. It's a common medication for PCS sufferers.
